UA Chancellor to speak at League of Women Voters event

University of Arkansas Chancellor Charles F. Robinson will speak at the Washington County chapter of the League of Women Voters’ July 1 Drinks and Dialogue event. The free gathering starts at 5:30 p.m. at Crisis Brewing in Fayetteville.

Robinson, who was appointed chancellor in November 2022 after serving as interim since August 2021, will discuss the 250th anniversary of the United States. A historian specializing in American history, Robinson has led the university through several institutional milestones, including record-setting graduation and retention rates.

The League of Women Voters regularly hosts Drinks and Dialogue sessions to connect Fayetteville residents with local leaders and timely topics. With Robinson’s background and the nation’s upcoming semiquincentennial, the event is shaping up to be a thoughtful look at both history and higher education’s role in NWA.

Crisis Brewing, located near the downtown Fayetteville square, has become a favored spot for public discussions and community gatherings. Its casual setting helps turn major subjects into approachable conversations, drawing community members interested in local and national issues alike.

Robinson’s tenure as chancellor has coincided with notable progress at the University of Arkansas. Under his leadership, the university has increased its scholarship funding significantly, helping more Arkansas students access higher education opportunities. Those achievements are a backdrop for the conversation he’ll lead on July 1.

For anyone tracking Fayetteville’s civic pulse, this event continues a pattern of engaging, informative talks hosted by the League of Women Voters. Their recent talks have included voices like the executive director of the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute, deepening community understanding around regional development and public policy.

Attendees can expect Robinson to touch on the importance of historical perspective in today’s civic life, especially as the country reflects on 250 years as a republic. It’s an opportunity that’s as much about looking forward as it is about honoring the past.
