Little Rock, Conway inventors develop patent for “automated calling number verification”

Inventors from Little Rock and Conway have been granted a U.S. patent for a system called “automated calling number verification,” according to the weekly list of patents issued from June 7 through June 14 by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The patent number 12652350 B2 lists Robert Collin Seely of Little Rock and Perry L. as inventors on the technology.

The automated calling number verification system aims to enhance the accuracy with which telephone numbers are verified during calls, a development that could have implications for security and telecommunications industries. While specific technical details of the patent have not been publicly disclosed in full, an automated verification process typically involves software algorithms that confirm the legitimacy of a caller’s phone number to prevent fraud and improve call routing reliability.

This patent joins a slate of intellectual property recently awarded to inventors connected to Arkansas, reflecting ongoing contributions from the state to multiple sectors. Among this group, Joseph Shannon Duncan of Conway is a co-inventor on the patent for an on-device identity resolution software development kit (patent 12651089 B2), developed alongside inventors in the Netherlands and California.

Arkansas’ footprint on innovation extends beyond telecommunications patents. Several inventors from NWA and nearby cities joined contributors to a patent for adjustable split heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. That patent (12650236 B2) lists Derek Brasuell of Van Buren; Mark Creason of Hackett; Robert Neihouse, Sachin Nehete, and Tyler Foust—all of Fort Smith; and Christopher Puranen of Atlanta, Georgia.

Other patents of note from Arkansas recipients during the same period include a connector assembly (patent 12651870 B2) featuring Scott Edwards from Little Rock amongst other Midwestern inventors, and a design patent for an elbow (D1129513 S1) awarded to Charles A. Hays Jr. of Little Rock.

These patents underscore the diverse technical expertise present in Northwest Arkansas and the state at large: from software development and telecommunications to HVAC systems and industrial design. The presence of patents credited to inventors in Little Rock, Conway, Fort Smith, and Van Buren confirms ongoing regional contributions to technological progress and patentable innovation.

Robert Collin Seely’s role in the patented “automated calling number verification” technology aligns with a broader national focus on improving telecommunication security and caller authentication. As robocalls and telephone fraud remain persistent challenges, technologies that automate verification processes are increasingly vital for service providers, regulators, and consumers.

Northwest Arkansas residents may encounter services influenced by these developments over time, particularly with growing digital communications and security requirements. Meanwhile, local inventors like Duncan and Seely continue to contribute to a patent portfolio that reflects the evolving economic and technical landscape of the region.
