Arkansas softball vs. Duke: Super regional preview, storylines, players to watch, team stats

The University of Arkansas softball team will host Duke University in the 2026 NCAA Fayetteville Super Regional at Bogle Park, marking the Razorbacks’ continued pursuit of a national championship. The best-of-three series begins Friday, May 23, at 7 p.m. with game two scheduled for Saturday at 6 p.m. and a potential third game on Sunday at 1 p.m., if needed.

Arkansas enters the regional as the No. 5 national seed with a 48-9 record, earning a bye through the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. The Razorbacks are led by head coach Courtney Deifel in her fourth season with the program. Duke, the No. 12 seed, arrives with a 42-15 record after advancing through the Greenville Regional in North Carolina.

Players to Watch

Arkansas will lean on its veteran core, including senior shortstop Atalyia Rijo, who is batting .365 with 15 home runs and 53 RBIs this season. Rijo, a native of Lancaster, California, has been a consistent force both offensively and defensively throughout the year.

Duke counters with senior shortstop Jessica Oakland, who leads the Blue Devils in batting average at .403 and has driven in 48 runs. Oakland also boasts 13 home runs and has anchored Duke’s infield throughout the season.

In the circle, Arkansas will likely turn to ace pitcher Chenise Delgado, who has posted a 28-6 record with a 1.41 ERA and 288 strikeouts in 303.1 innings pitched. Delgado, a junior from Lancaster, California, has been one of the top pitchers in the country and will be crucial to Arkansas’ hopes of advancing to the Women’s College World Series.

Duke’s pitching staff is anchored by sophomore right-hander Madison Brewer, who has a 22-9 record with a 1.78 ERA and 188 strikeouts over 195 innings. Her ability to command the strike zone and limit opposing rallies will be key for the Blue Devils.

Offensively, Arkansas ranks among the top 10 nationally in several categories, including batting average (.331), home runs (86), and slugging percentage (.529). The Razorbacks have also recorded 143 stolen bases, showcasing their aggressive base-running approach.

Defensively, Arkansas has committed only 49 errors in 57 games, reflecting strong fundamentals and communication. The team’s fielding percentage of .973 is among the best in the SEC.

Duke, meanwhile, has shown resilience at the plate, averaging 6.3 runs per game and hitting .301 as a team. The Blue Devils have also hit 57 home runs and drawn 271 walks, indicating disciplined hitting. Their defense has been solid, committing 71 errors in 57 games, with a fielding percentage of .958.

On the mound, Duke has allowed 3.1 runs per game, ranking in the top 25 nationally in ERA at 2.34. The Blue Devils’ bullpen has been particularly effective, posting a combined 1.98 ERA in relief situations.

Series History and Neutral Venue

Arkansas and Duke have never faced each other in softball. The series will be played at Bogle Park, which has hosted NCAA regionals and super regionals since 2017. The Razorbacks have a 22-5 record at home this season and are 12-2 in postseason games at Bogle Park since 2022.

Admission to the games is free, but seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Fans are encouraged to arrive early, particularly for game one on Friday.

The winner of the Fayetteville Super Regional will advance to the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City, scheduled to begin June 6. For Arkansas, a trip to the WCWS would mark the program’s third consecutive appearance and eighth overall under head coach Courtney Deifel.
