Arkansas softball notebook: Karlie Davison makes final home at-bat memorable

Karlie Davison’s final home at-bat in Fayetteville ended with a bang — twice.

On Friday, the Arkansas senior second baseman launched a walk-off 3-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to seal a 14-5 run-rule win over Duke in Game 1 of the Fayetteville Super Regional at Bogle Park. The Razorbacks followed that up Saturday with another dominant performance, and again, Davison provided the exclamation point. Her second consecutive 3-run homer in the fifth inning helped close out a 10-2 run-rule victory, sending Arkansas to the championship series of the super regional.

The back-to-back home runs marked the first multi-game home run streak of Davison’s collegiate career. Both shots came in high-leverage moments, punctuating Arkansas’ offensive surge and propelling the team one step closer to a potential Women’s College World Series berth.

Consistency at the Plate

Davison finished the Fayetteville Super Regional opener batting 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Her performance was part of a larger offensive explosion that saw Arkansas score 24 runs through the first two games of the series. The Razorbacks improved to 47-11 overall and extended their win streak to 14 games.

Her second homer, off Duke pitcher Brittney Butler, gave Arkansas a commanding 8-2 lead and effectively put the game out of reach. The blast was Davison’s 11th of the season and 33rd of her four-year career.

“She’s been a consistent performer for us all season,” Arkansas head coach Courtney Deifel said after the game. “In big moments, she finds a way to come through.”

Davison, a native of nearby Springdale, has been a fixture in the Razorbacks’ lineup since her freshman year. Over 230 career at-bats, she’s posted a .322 batting average with 33 home runs and 117 RBIs. Her leadership has been instrumental in Arkansas’ rise to national prominence in softball, including three consecutive super regional appearances.

A Career in Context

This weekend’s performances cap a strong senior season for Davison, who entered the Fayetteville Super Regional hitting .342 with 11 home runs and 49 RBIs. Her production has helped Arkansas secure a top-8 national seed and hosting duties for the super regional for the third straight year.

The Razorbacks will face the winner of the Duke-Oklahoma series in the championship round. A win would mark Arkansas’ fourth consecutive trip to the Women’s College World Series, a program first.

Bogle Park has been a reliable home field advantage for Arkansas, which is now 28-2 at home this season. The team’s success in Fayetteville has drawn consistent crowds, with an average attendance of over 1,600 per game during the super regional.

For Davison, the emotional weight of closing out her career in front of home-state fans wasn’t lost. After the Saturday win, she was seen laughing with teammates and hugging coaches as fans chanted her name from the stands.

“It’s been a dream to play in front of this community,” Davison said. “To end my time here with these kinds of memories is something I’ll carry with me forever.”

Arkansas softball has become a cornerstone of NWA’s sports culture. With a loyal fan base, consistent national rankings, and deep local ties, the program continues to elevate the profile of women’s athletics in the region. Davison’s contributions have helped lay the groundwork for sustained success — both on the field and in the community.

The Razorbacks are scheduled to play the series finale on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Oklahoma, pending the outcome of Saturday night’s elimination game. A win would punch their ticket to Oklahoma City for the WCWS, where they’ll look to improve on last year’s runner-up finish.
