The Walmart Foundation announced a $500,000 grant and in-kind donations Wednesday to assist communities affected by the Spokane Complex Fires in Washington. The Bentonville-based company said the funds and supplies will support relief efforts and provide direct aid to households in the hardest-hit areas.
The in-kind donations include essential items such as food, water, cleaning supplies, hygiene products, and diapers. Walmart has committed to distributing these through trusted organizations operating in the region. So far, the company has coordinated with Spokane Public Schools and Spokane County Emergency Management to address urgent needs.
Jay Cordray, senior vice president for Walmart’s west business unit, acknowledged the severity of losses faced by families in the region. “We’re working with trusted organizations across the region to help provide food, essential items and other immediate support to families who need it most,” Cordray said.
The Spokane Complex Fires have damaged more than 625 homes, displacing hundreds of families and causing significant infrastructure damage. Relief groups on the ground are mobilizing to deliver aid to those impacted, and the Walmart Foundation’s donation aims to bolster these ongoing efforts.
Walmart’s financial contribution is intended for distribution through local organizations committed to providing direct household assistance. This includes emergency shelters, food banks, and public agencies that have immediate access to affected families.
