One person died and another sustained minor injuries following a two-vehicle collision Thursday morning in Rogers. The crash occurred around 8 a.m. in front of the Fitzroy Apartments, located on South 26th Street.
According to Cpl. Don Lisi of the Rogers Police Department, each vehicle involved had a single occupant. First responders had to extricate both drivers from their vehicles due to the severity of the damage.
While one driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene, the other was transported to an area hospital where they later died from injuries sustained in the crash. Police have not released the identities of the individuals pending family notification.
Cpl. Lisi emphasized that preliminary investigations have found no indication that either driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the collision. Authorities continue to investigate the exact causes and circumstances that led to the crash but have not disclosed further details as of Friday afternoon.
The Fitzroy Apartments complex is situated near several other residential areas along South 26th Street, a busy thoroughfare that connects to Pinnacle Hills Parkway and other parts of central Rogers. This intersection has experienced traffic incidents in previous years, prompting city officials to consider traffic safety measures along this corridor.
Emergency crews, including the Rogers Fire Department and EMS, responded promptly to the scene to assist with extrication and medical care. Rogers Police temporarily closed the section of South 26th Street during rescue and investigation efforts, causing traffic delays in the area for several hours Thursday morning.
Traffic safety advocates in Benton County note that two-vehicle collisions with extrications often stem from a combination of factors such as limited visibility, distracted driving, or failure to yield. Local officials have not yet confirmed if any of these played a role in this latest fatality.
This incident follows an uptick in traffic-related fatalities in Northwest Arkansas over recent years, according to Arkansas Department of Transportation data. While Rogers as a city has invested in roadway improvements and public safety campaigns, fatal crashes remain a serious community concern.
Residents in the neighborhoods near the Fitzroy Apartments expressed shock over the fatal crash. Several cited concerns about speeding along South 26th Street during morning and evening commute hours.
Rogers Police urge drivers to exercise caution and stay alert while traveling, especially in residential and high-density areas. “Our department extends condolences to the families affected by this tragic crash and reminds all motorists to follow traffic laws to help prevent future tragedies,” Cpl. Lisi said.
