The Momentary is teaming up with Latinas en Bici for “Tour de Frida: Bike Celebration,” an afternoon dedicated to art, cycling, and Latin culture on July 11. The event runs from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. across the Arvest Bank Courtyard, North Courtyard, and Quonset Hut spaces at the Bentonville contemporary art space. Admission is free, but tickets are required for entry.
Local bike group Latinas en Bici is organizing the gathering, which aims to bring the community together through movement and music. While Bentonville is often defined by its high-tech mountain bike culture, this event shifts the focus to street riding, connection, and celebration. The schedule is packed with standard festival fixtures, but the vibe here leans into the specific energy of the local Latinx community.
Attendees can expect a fashion show, live art demonstrations, and activities for all ages. Food vendors and local businesses will set up shop throughout the campus. For those who want to channel the event’s namesake, a Frida Kahlo look-alike contest will take place during the festivities. It’s a colorful departure from the typical green-and-gold aesthetic usually associated with the area’s outdoor scene.
The main event, however, is the community ride kicking off at 5 p.m. Riders of all ages and skill levels are welcome to join the roll-out. You’ll need to bring your own bike, whether it’s a road bike, a cruiser, or something in between. The ride is designed to be a loose, social cruise rather than a race on the Bentonville trails.
Music and Dancing
p>Once the wheels stop turning, the party keeps going. Revolución Latina, a Little Rock-based female-fronted band, will take the stage for an afterparty concert. The group specializes in Sonidero and Tropical Cumbia, genres that are practically guaranteed to get people moving. Organizers describe the set as a concert built specifically for connection and dancing, so plan on sticking around after the ride.
This event connects the larger Crystal Bridges ecosystem with the town’s growing bike scene. The Momentary, a satellite to the Museum of American Art, has increasingly hosted events that blend performance art with community gatherings. Tour de Frida fits that mission by using the bike as a vehicle for cultural expression rather than just recreation.
The event is bilingual, reflecting the diverse fabric of Northwest Arkansas. Whether you are there for the cumbia, the contest, or just a casual pedal around the grounds, the afternoon offers a different way to experience the Bentonville square district.
