Thaden School opened its new Lower School campus to students Tuesday morning, marking the first year the institution serves kindergarten through twelfth grade in Bentonville.
Families were invited Monday for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house at the newly built facility, which features dedicated classrooms for students in kindergarten through fourth grade. The space includes specialized rooms for music, art, and woodworking, along with a library designed to support the school’s literacy focus.
“Our students will build deep proficiency in literacy, numeracy, Spanish and citizenship,” said Michael Maloy, Thaden’s head of school. He emphasized that the Lower School will prioritize inquiry-driven learning over passive lectures, encouraging students to engage actively with material and develop critical thinking skills early in their education.
Melissa Sherman, head of Thaden Lower School, spoke during the ribbon-cutting ceremony about the school’s approach to building a strong foundation for young learners. She highlighted the importance of fostering language skills, noting that students will begin gaining proficiency in a second language at an early age.
