Stretch of Razorback Greenway in Fayetteville to be detoured next week as trail canopy removal takes place

Next week, a section of the Razorback Greenway in Fayetteville will see a temporary detour as workers remove an overhead protection canopy. From Monday through May 15, the bustling trail between West Center and West Spring streets will be redirected daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to a city announcement.

During these hours, anyone venturing out will need to follow detour signs directing them to use sidewalks along North West Avenue. The city advises walkers, runners, and cyclists to be especially cautious of the changing surface conditions. Signs will be in place to guide trail traffic and alert folks to adjacent work areas.

This detour might seem like a small inconvenience, but it can also be a chance for families to explore Fayetteville from a slightly new perspective. If you’re planning a family outing, this brief detour could offer an unexpected little adventure. Try to see it as an opportunity to show the kids how a city adapts and changes, even in seemingly small ways.

The Razorback Greenway, beloved by locals as a connecting thread through Northwest Arkansas, is more than just a trail. It’s a living artery that pulses with the energy of the community — from daily commuters to leisurely strollers. This maintenance work is a necessary step to ensure that the trail remains safe and accessible for everyone.

If you’re planning a family bike ride next week, just remember to pack a little extra patience along with your snacks and water bottles. And maybe aim to start or end your adventure near Fayetteville’s well-loved spots like Wilson Park or enjoy a bite at one of the local eateries nearby. You could even plan a stop at the e-Mountain Bike Paradise at Horseshoe Canyon Ranch for a different kind of cycling experience.

By embracing these slight changes, families can still create cherished memories while supporting the upkeep of a pivotal local landmark. So lace up those sneakers or pump up those bike tires, and head out with a spirit of discovery. Let this detour be a reminder of how our trails, much like our lives, are ever-evolving paths worth traveling.
