Starting this fall, Fayetteville entrepreneurs will have a new resource to help navigate the process of launching a business locally. Startup Junkie, a Northwest Arkansas-based nonprofit that supports early-stage companies, is partnering with the City of Fayetteville’s Department of Economic Development to release the Fayetteville Business Starter Kit — a series of webinars and online guides covering essential steps like licensing, permitting, and zoning requirements.
The initiative launches with a webinar series scheduled to begin in October 2026. Topics will include business structure selection, tax registration, and local regulatory compliance. After the live sessions, Startup Junkie will publish a digital library of how-to guides based on the presentations, which will remain available to the public at no cost.
“We’re seeing more people in Fayetteville who want to start a business but don’t know where to begin,” said Chris Couglin, CEO of Startup Junkie. “This project is about giving them a clear roadmap.”
The Starter Kit is designed for residents with little to no prior business experience. It focuses on practical steps rather than broad theory, aiming to reduce barriers to entry for local entrepreneurs. Content will be tailored specifically to Fayetteville’s municipal requirements and will include direct links to relevant city forms and resources.
Local Focus, Broader Impact
Fayetteville’s Department of Economic Development helped identify gaps in existing support systems through feedback collected from previous small business roundtables. Many prospective business owners cited confusion over local processes as a major obstacle to launching.
“We wanted to meet people where they are,” said Emily Knox, Economic Development Specialist for the City of Fayetteville. “A lot of folks have great ideas but get overwhelmed by the mechanics of opening a business. This program is meant to simplify that.”
The Starter Kit is free and open to the public. Registration for the webinar series will be available through the Startup Junkie website beginning September 1, 2026. All sessions will be recorded and posted online afterward.
Startup Junkie has supported more than 300 early-stage companies in Arkansas since its founding in 2014. Its programs include mentorship matching, pitch competitions, and access to micro-loans through its partnership with Kiva. The Fayetteville Starter Kit represents the organization’s first municipally backed initiative focused solely on pre-launch business education.
For entrepreneurs in Benton County and surrounding areas, the Starter Kit adds to a growing menu of startup resources in Northwest Arkansas. The region is home to several accelerators, coworking spaces, and small business development centers, many of which have expanded in recent years due to increased demand.
The program also aligns with broader economic development goals in Fayetteville, where city leaders have prioritized support for locally owned businesses as part of a long-term strategy to diversify the local economy.
