Rodgers, Turner help Vikings shut down Bears for a 9-3 win; Chicago QB Williams injured

The Minnesota Vikings edged out the Chicago Bears 9-3 Sunday in a defensive slugfest at Soldier Field, with standout plays from linebacker Dallas Turner and cornerback Isaiah Rodgers sealing the win. The Bears’ rookie quarterback Caleb Williams suffered an injury, adding to their Sunday woes.

Turner, in just his third NFL season, brought the heat all game, registering two of Minnesota’s four sacks. His final takedown of Bears’ quarterback Tyson Bagent on the last play stood as a symbolic exclamation point for a Vikings defense that simply would not give ground. After the sack, Turner sprinted downfield in celebration, undeterred by the persistent rain soaking the stadium.

“I’ve been preparing for moments like this since college,” Turner said. “The key is just showing up every day and executing at a high level.” That mentality has clearly paid off, especially since Turner made an impact early in the season with a sack in Minnesota’s Week 1 win over Green Bay.

Isaiah Rodgers also made his presence known, recovering a critical fumble and blocking a late field-goal attempt that could have changed the outcome. His defensive heroics kept the Bears’ offense from generating much momentum. The Vikings improved to 2-0 on the season with the victory.

Chicago struggled offensively all afternoon, managing just a single field goal against the tough Vikings defense. The Bears’ quarterback situation is now a serious question mark. Caleb Williams exited the game with an injury, and though details weren’t immediately available, it adds to an already challenging start for Chicago.

The final score may not impress casual fans used to high-scoring NFL games, but this contest was a masterclass in defensive determination. Honestly, to witness such grinding, physical football in a stadium like Soldier Field, where the elements come into play, speaks volumes about how much the players are battling through adversity.

For Minnesota, the defense’s ability to control the line of scrimmage and force turnovers looks like a promising foundation. Turner and Rodgers embody that fierce attitude you’d expect from a defense willing to carry the team’s hopes when the offense struggles to put points on the board.

The Bears will need to regroup quickly. Losing a starting quarterback early in the season usually means dialing up adjustments and scouting for solutions. Meanwhile, the Vikings are gaining confidence as a defensive unit, which bodes well going into their next matchups.

Coming from around here, it’s easy to forget how much an NFL defense can carry a team. In major markets, with huge payrolls and star-studded offenses, a low-scoring, defense-driven win might not make headlines. But look at Minnesota—no flashy stats, just relentless effort and execution. That’s football at its rawest, and it’s thrilling.
