Prairie Grove Picnic in the Park aims to connect nonprofits, potential volunteers and people needing services

This Saturday, the Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park will once again transform into a lively hub of community connection with the return of the Picnic in the Park. Running from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., this year’s event builds on the success of its inaugural run in 2025, which saw over 2,000 attendees enjoying a day of free food, fun, and networking.

Organizers are keeping the down-home charm alive with an old-fashioned picnic vibe. Expect hearty servings of beans and smoked chicken sizzling over open fires, reminiscent of last year’s culinary highlight provided by Wayne Carnahan. Meanwhile, kids can look forward to a range of activities, including a petting zoo that’s sure to delight the young and young at heart. And for music lovers, live performances will add a festive soundtrack to the day.

The real heart of the picnic, however, lies in its mission to act as a bridge between local nonprofits, volunteer groups, and the community. Attendees can mingle with representatives from various organizations, learning about the services they offer and how to get involved. This makes the picnic not only a day of leisure but also an opportunity for meaningful engagement and support for local causes.

The event’s success in creating such connections is backed by the efforts of groups like the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame Foundation, which provides grants to support nonprofit work, and the Arkansas Community Foundation, a longtime advocate for philanthropy in the state. These organizations highlight the importance of community support systems and make events like the Picnic in the Park possible.

Whether you’re there for the food, the music, or the chance to make a difference, Saturday’s Picnic in the Park promises to be a day well spent in Prairie Grove. With the sun (hopefully) shining and the community gathered, it’s a perfect recipe for both fun and fostering connections that could last long after the picnic blankets are packed away.
