Clayton Riley Smith, 25, of Prairie Grove, was arrested Aug. 11 on suspicion of felony rape and third-degree battery after a woman reported being assaulted at his residence on General Parson Drive two days earlier.
According to the Prairie Grove Police Department’s preliminary report, the woman said she had spent the evening of Aug. 9 on Fayetteville’s Dickson Street with friends, where she encountered Smith. The two share a prior intimate relationship, the report states. Later in the night, under the influence of alcohol and marijuana, the woman agreed to go to Smith’s home with him.
The woman told investigators that their initial sexual activity was consensual. However, Smith then became aggressive, pinning her arms. Despite her repeated pleas to “stop,” she said Smith continued to force himself upon her.
Police arrested Smith two days later at his Prairie Grove residence. He faces charges of felony rape and third-degree battery stemming from the incident.
Fayetteville’s Dickson Street is a well-known nightlife destination, often busy on weekends, drawing crowds from across Northwest Arkansas. Incidents like this underscore ongoing concerns about safety in the area, particularly involving vulnerable individuals under the influence of substances.
