NWA outdoor events: See spring birds, hike to a waterfall

Families looking for a day of adventure and nature can head to the Kings River Falls Natural Area in Madison County this Saturday. The Ozark Society Highlands Chapter is hosting a 2.5-mile hike that promises scenic views and a refreshing experience. The hike will follow a charming road trace beside the river, leading to the picturesque Kings River Falls.

The group will gather at two locations: the Harps parking lot in Huntsville at 9:15 a.m. or directly at the Kings River Falls trailhead at 10 a.m. This is an excellent outing for families with children who love exploring the outdoors. The trail is relatively short and accessible, making it suitable for school-aged kids and older. Don’t forget to pack water, snacks, and perhaps a small picnic to enjoy by the waterfall.

If you’re in the mood for a different kind of walk, the Ozark Hill Hikers invite everyone to join a community walk in Siloam Springs, also on Saturday. Registration will be held from 8:30 to 9 a.m. at the Phillips 66 convenience store, located at 1295 N. Mt. Olive St. in Siloam Springs. Participants can choose between a 5-kilometer or 10-kilometer route. Both routes start and end at Bob Henry Park and follow the Dogwood Springs greenway trail. You’ll walk alongside Sager Creek, pass through the campus of John Brown University, and enjoy the charm of the historic downtown district.

The fee for participating in this walk is $4 per person. The event provides a wonderful opportunity to explore the area with fellow nature enthusiasts and is suitable for all ages. Whether you opt for the shorter or longer route, it’s a delightful way to spend a Saturday morning.

These events are more than just walks in nature; they’re chances to create lasting memories with your family. Both the hike and the walk offer a glimpse into the beauty of Northwest Arkansas’s landscapes. So, lace up those hiking boots or walking shoes, grab your family, and get ready for a day outdoors. You might even want to check out the e-Mountain Bike Paradise at Horseshoe Canyon Ranch for more outdoor fun in the region.
