Spring break in Northwest Arkansas is shaping up to be a nature lover’s delight, thanks to a host of outdoor events planned by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and other local organizations. Kicking things off are the eagerly anticipated Fishing Fridays, a perfect opportunity for both newbies and seasoned anglers to cast their lines.
Every Friday through May, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission educators will be at Murphy Park pond in Springdale from 9 a.m. to noon, teaching the ins and outs of fishing. For those who can’t make it to Springdale this week, another session is set for April 3 at Lake Springdale, offering a serene setting to hone your fishing skills.
Meanwhile, the Hunt Family Nature Center in Springdale and the Janet Huckabee Nature Center in Fort Smith are also offering a variety of spring break activities. While the specifics are still unfolding, you can expect everything from bird-watching to nature hikes, perfect for anyone looking to unplug and reconnect with the great outdoors.
For those who prefer to give back while enjoying nature, the Hawksbill Crag volunteer opportunity is calling your name. Volunteers are needed to help maintain this beloved trail, ensuring it remains accessible and beautiful for all. It’s a rewarding way to spend a day, combining physical activity with community service in one of the most picturesque spots in the Ozarks.
In a nod to our feathered friends, Northsong Wild Bird Rehabilitation is hosting a silent auction and open house this Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Located at 17887 Wheeler Road in Fayetteville, Northsong provides free medical treatment for injured songbirds. The event promises an afternoon of learning and community spirit, with all proceeds supporting the center’s vital work.
These events are just a taste of the outdoor adventures waiting for us this spring. Whether you’re casting a line or lending a hand, there’s no shortage of ways to get involved and enjoy the natural beauty of our region. So, grab your gear or your work gloves, and make the most of what nature has to offer here in Northwest Arkansas.
