The Mountain Street entrances to the Fayetteville Public Library will close starting Monday, Aug. 31, as crews begin sidewalk construction near the downtown facility.
The Main Library at 401 W. Mountain St. will keep its doors open during the project, but patrons will need to adjust how they access the building. Prior to this closure, the city already blocked off the entrance to the parking deck from Mountain Street, limiting access to vehicles.
City officials announced the upcoming changes in a press release this week, confirming that the library’s primary entry point on the north side of the building will be inaccessible during the work.
Access and parking
Patrons visiting the library must rely on alternative routes to reach the facility and its parking garage. The parking deck remains operational but can only be entered via the West Avenue ramp.
The library’s paved lot on South School Avenue is also open and available for use. This provides a surface-level parking option for those who do not wish to navigate the garage entrance shifts.
City infrastructure teams are focused on the sidewalk improvements along the Mountain Street corridor, necessitating the closure of pedestrian access points. Construction on the walkways is a scheduled element of the area’s ongoing maintenance and development plans.
Library operations
Fayetteville Public Library staff and administration have emphasized that the facility will not interrupt regular operations. Library hours and services will continue without change.
Library leadership noted in the release that even with the mountain street closures, the West Avenue and School Avenue lots provide sufficient capacity for weekend and weekday traffic. Staff anticipate an adjustment period over the next few weeks as drivers familiarize themselves with the new approach to the downtown hub.
