May 27, 2026 Rogers Public Schools Students Selected for Arkansas Boys State and Arkansas Girls State

Seven Rogers Public Schools students were selected to represent the district at the 2026 Arkansas Boys State and Arkansas Girls State programs, the district announced Tuesday.

The students will participate in these week-long leadership and citizenship programs sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. Arkansas Boys State and Girls State offer high school juniors the chance to learn about government functions firsthand through hands-on activities like forming mock cities, running campaigns, and participating in legislative sessions.

Rogers High School contributed four participants to the programs. The Arkansas Boys State delegates are Johnathan Peters and Michael Sanchez. From Arkansas Girls State, representing Rogers High are Emma Lawson and Mia Chen. Rogers Heritage High School’s delegation includes Jayden Ross attending Boys State and Abigail Hart and Sofia Ramirez attending Girls State.

These selections are based on academic achievement, leadership potential, and community involvement, with students nominated by their school’s faculty and leadership councils.

The Arkansas Boys State and Girls State programs have a strong history of cultivating future leaders; many alumni have gone on to serve in public office or hold significant roles in business and civic organizations across Arkansas and beyond.

Rogers Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Paul Hunter acknowledged the students’ accomplishments, saying, “Being selected for this prestigious program reflects the outstanding leadership values we strive to nurture in our students. This experience will provide valuable insights into government and public service that will serve them well in their futures.”

The Arkansas Boys State and Girls State sessions are held annually at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. This year’s programs will run from June 7 through June 12.

The Rogers School District serves roughly 23,000 students across Benton County in its various elementary, middle, and high schools, including Rogers High, Rogers Heritage High, and Oakdale Middle School. It invests in leadership development opportunities like these as part of its broader strategy to enhance student civic engagement and readiness for college and careers.

Students attending these programs will receive scholarships to help offset costs, with the Arkansas American Legion Auxiliary covering registration and accommodation expenses. Local chapters of the American Legion and Auxiliary have also supported past attendees from Rogers by providing transportation and mentorship.

Participation at Arkansas Boys State and Girls State complements other district initiatives aimed at increasing student involvement in government and politics. Rogers High and Rogers Heritage High both offer government classes, civics clubs, and student councils that prepare participants for this hands-on government simulation.

In addition to academic and leadership development, the programs emphasize networking with peers from across the state, fostering statewide connections among Arkansas youth interested in public service.

This year’s selection continues a multi-year tradition of Rogers Public Schools students representing the district at these programs, which have been held annually for more than 80 years statewide.
