Man arrested after alleged stabbing in Fayetteville

A Fayetteville man was arrested late Tuesday after allegedly stabbing another man during a dispute at a shared residence, according to Fayetteville Police Department reports.

Officers were dispatched to a home in the southeast part of Fayetteville around 11 p.m. after a 911 call reported a stabbing. Upon arrival, police found the victim with apparent wounds consistent with a knife assault. The victim, who lives at the residence, told officers that the incident stemmed from an argument with the suspect. The two had been roommates.

According to the victim’s statement, the suspect accused him of theft, which escalated into a verbal altercation before turning violent. Law enforcement officials say the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times before fleeing the scene.

Emergency medical personnel arrived soon after officers and transported the victim to a local hospital. Fayetteville police reported that the victim’s injuries were serious but not considered life-threatening.

The suspect, identified by police as a 28-year-old Fayetteville resident, was apprehended shortly thereafter during a search of the surrounding neighborhood. Police secured a knife believed to be the weapon used in the stabbing.

Fayetteville Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Brenda Roth detailed the sequence of events, saying, “Officers responded quickly to a stabbing call and worked efficiently to locate and arrest the suspect. Our investigation indicates the argument was over alleged theft accusations between roommates living together.”

The suspect has been charged with aggravated assault and is being held in the Washington County Detention Center pending a bond hearing. Fayetteville Municipal Court records do not show any prior felony convictions for the man.

Neighbors say the residence, located near the intersection of Garland Avenue and Old Missouri Road, is generally quiet, though roommate disputes have been heard on occasion. The incident raises concerns over conflicts escalating in shared housing situations, which are common around the University of Arkansas campus and nearby neighborhoods.

The Fayetteville Police Department reminds residents to de-escalate conflicts whenever possible and to seek mediation or law enforcement assistance before disputes turn violent.

This stabbing marks one of several violent incidents reported in Fayetteville over the past month. Police continue to work on broader neighborhood safety initiatives as the city balances growth with public safety challenges.

Victims Harbor, a local nonprofit assisting survivors of violent crime, encourages anyone affected by similar incidents to reach out for support services including counseling and advocacy.

As the investigation proceeds, police are asking anyone with additional information about the incident to contact Fayetteville Police Department’s tip line. No further details about the suspect’s motive have been released beyond the dispute over alleged stolen property.

Fayetteville authorities have not linked this stabbing to other recent neighborhood crimes, viewing it as an isolated personal dispute rather than random violence or gang activity.

This latest arrest comes amid city efforts to provide resources for conflict resolution as part of a wider public safety campaign. Those living or working in Fayetteville’s southeast neighborhoods can expect increased patrols in response to community concerns following the stabbing.

The victim is expected to recover fully, according to hospital officials, though the emotional impact on both parties and their extended networks remains a point of concern.

The Fayetteville Police Department continues to urge residents to report suspicious activity early and to keep community safety a shared priority across neighborhoods.
