Kelsi Musick, players press conference: Arkansas women's basketball previews new season

Arkansas women’s basketball head coach Kelsi Musick, along with players Emily Robinson and Whitley Rogers, held a press conference Wednesday to preview the upcoming season. The Razorbacks are preparing for fall practices as they aim to build on last year’s performance and establish a solid foundation for the 2026-27 campaign.

Musick, who has led the team through multiple seasons at Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville, emphasized continued growth and development as central goals. She noted the challenges of integrating new players while maintaining the Razorbacks’ competitive edge in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).

“We’re focused on getting better every day,” Musick said. “Fall practice is an opportunity to evaluate our roster, build chemistry, and work on the fundamentals that will help us execute during the season.”

Senior guard Emily Robinson, returning as one of the team’s leaders, echoed Musick’s message of progress and resilience. Robinson highlighted the importance of leadership on and off the court to guide younger players through the rigors of SEC play.

“We’ve got a lot of talent coming in, and it’s important that we set the tone,” Robinson said. “This season, we want to compete at a high level every game and support each other through the grind.”

Forward Whitley Rogers also addressed the team’s preparation and the work ahead. She mentioned that the coaching staff is emphasizing physical conditioning and defensive intensity to improve overall consistency.

“Coach Musick is pushing us hard during fall practices,” Rogers said. “We’re working on defense because it’s going to be key if we want to win tight games.”

The Razorbacks ended last season with a record that reflected promising moments but also clear areas for improvement. With the fall practice period underway, Musick’s staff is evaluating strategies to boost scoring and minimize turnovers, which were both noted as focal points.

Arkansas will open the regular season at Bud Walton Arena, where the home crowd’s support has been instrumental in recent years. Musick praised the fan base for its enthusiasm and called the arena an advantage the team looks to leverage.

“Playing at Bud Walton is always special,” Musick said. “Our fans bring energy that fuels us, and we want to give them a team that competes hard and represents the university with pride.”

The Razorbacks will face a challenging SEC schedule, including matchups against perennial powerhouses such as South Carolina and Tennessee. The coaching staff is preparing the team to handle the physicality and depth typical of these contests.

Musick’s emphasis on building through fall practice reflects a longer-term vision for program stability rather than immediate turnaround. She stressed the importance of player development, recruiting, and fostering a culture of accountability among athletes.

Robinson and Rogers, as established contributors, are expected to play critical roles both in scoring and mentoring younger teammates. Their presence offers continuity as Arkansas integrates newcomers into the system.

This approach aligns with recent trends in Arkansas athletics, where methodical program growth has been favored over rapid but unsustainable success. It parallels similar development efforts within Northwest Arkansas sports programs aiming for consistent regional and national competitiveness.

Fans and observers will watch closely as the Razorbacks enter fall practice and the early non-conference schedule, which traditionally serves as a barometer for how well the team has gelled and adjusted to offseason changes.

The Razorbacks’ next official event will be the season opener at Bud Walton Arena, with dates and opponents to be confirmed by the University of Arkansas athletics department.
