Brice Owens accounted for all six touchdowns for Springdale Har-Ber on Thursday night, leading the Wildcats to a 45-14 win over Fort Smith Northside. The senior quarterback threw for three scores and ran for three more, finishing with 230 yards of total offense to secure the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Player of the Week award.
The 3-1 Wildcats jumped out to a lead in the first half that held firm, capitalizing on efficient drive after drive against the Tigers (0-2) in their home opener. For a program that has seen its share of highs and lows—holding court at Arvest Ballpark for media days and fighting for credibility in a 7-6A conference packed with talent—Thursday night was a fresh reminder of what this Har-Ber offense can look like when everything goes according to script.
Owens emphasized that the team’s success was a complete group effort, crediting the offensive line for blocking well and the receivers for holding onto the ball.
“I am happy for our team to win the game, but we have so much to improve upon,” Owens said. “It was fun leading the team, and everyone was on the same page. It was great to make all those plays, and my offensive line and receivers made me look great.”
Coach Aaron Danenhauer said Owens always brings energy to the field, allowing the team to maintain focus even when the opposition puts pressure on.
Har-Ber will return to the field next week to continue their pursuit of a playoff spot, looking to build on this win against a division opponent.
