Gentry to expand free school supplies program to all students next school year

Come next school year, every student in the Gentry School District will walk into class with one less worry: their school supplies. The district, which currently provides free supplies only to Gentry Primary School students, announced plans to expand the program to encompass all students across the district.

This move comes as a welcome relief to many families who often find themselves burdened by the annual scramble for pencils, notebooks, and other classroom essentials. “It’s going to make a big difference,” said local parent Lisa Turner. “Every little bit helps when you’re juggling back-to-school expenses for multiple kids.”

This decision is part of a broader push to ensure all students have the materials they need to succeed academically, regardless of their family’s financial situation. Considering the rising costs of living and education, this initiative couldn’t come at a better time for many in the community.

The program’s expansion is funded through a combination of district funds and generous donations from local businesses and community organizations. Superintendent Paul Jefferson expressed gratitude to those who have contributed. “We couldn’t do this without the support of our community,” he said. “It’s truly a team effort.”

Local business owner Jake Morales of Morales Market echoed this sentiment, noting the importance of investing in the community’s future. “Supporting our schools means supporting our community,” Morales said. “These kids are our future leaders, and we want to give them every opportunity to succeed.”

While the logistics are still being finalized, the district plans to distribute supplies through individual schools before the start of the new school year. More details will be provided to parents and guardians as the plan develops.

Gentry’s initiative mirrors efforts in nearby areas, like Bentonville, where community organizations such as the Samaritan Community Center regularly rally volunteers to support local students. These collective efforts underscore a regional commitment to educational equity and community support.

For families in Gentry, this program expansion offers tangible support and one less worry as they prepare for the upcoming school year. As more communities in Northwest Arkansas look to similar initiatives, Gentry’s program serves as a hopeful model of what can be achieved when a community rallies together.
