Frisco delivered a 7-0 shutout victory over the Northwest Arkansas Naturals Thursday night at Arvest Ballpark, handing the Naturals their second consecutive loss. The RoughRiders extended their lead early and never looked back, with a decisive five-run seventh inning breaking the game open.
The scoring began quickly for Frisco in the top of the first inning. Sebastian Walcott doubled and then stole third base, putting himself in position to score. He crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Arturo Disla, giving the RoughRiders a 1-0 lead before the home crowd settled in.
Frisco’s offense remained quiet until the seventh inning, when the team exploded with five runs to create a commanding 6-0 advantage. Disla continued his productive night with a two-run single, pushing the score to 3-0. Shortly after, Yeison Morrobel contributed a two-run single of his own to increase the margin to 5-0. A throwing error by the Naturals allowed an additional run to score, finalizing the rally at five runs for the inning.
The RoughRiders added one more insurance run in the top of the ninth inning. Max Wagner connected for a solo home run, extending Frisco’s lead to 7-0. The home run marked the final run of the game and cemented Frisco’s victory.
On the mound, a combination of four Frisco pitchers held the Naturals scoreless throughout the contest. Leandro Lopez (2-2) earned the win, pitching effectively to limit any chance of a Northwest Arkansas comeback. For the Naturals, Hunter Owen took the loss despite a strong personal performance. Owen pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing only one run but was charged with the defeat as the offense failed to provide support. He recorded 10 strikeouts in the outing, highlighting his effort despite the team’s struggles.
The Naturals (22-32 second half, 51-70 overall) continue to face challenges late in the season as they try to improve their record and compete for playoff contention. The loss on Thursday follows a prior defeat, marking back-to-back losses for the team at Arvest Ballpark.
In addition to the game results, the Naturals made a roster announcement earlier Thursday. Shortstop Colton Becker was promoted to Class AAA Omaha, moving up in the Kansas City Royals minor league system. Becker’s promotion reflects the organization’s continued investment in developing players during the season.
Frisco’s win moves the RoughRiders to a .500 record in the second half at 27-27 and an overall winning record of 66-56. The team’s balanced approach of timely hitting and pitching depth was on full display against Northwest Arkansas.
Northwest Arkansas now looks ahead to upcoming games with the objective of reversing its recent losing streak and improving its position in the division standings. The Naturals have struggled offensively against Frisco’s pitching staff and will need to generate more opportunities if they hope to contend in the remaining schedule.
