Former Tontitown church employee gets prison for having images, videos of child sexual abuse

Paul Scouten, a former employee at a church in Tontitown, has been sentenced to just over six years in federal prison for possessing and distributing child sexual abuse materials. Scouten, 40, who lived on East Cortland Street in Fayetteville, was found with explicit images and videos on both his personal cellphone and a work computer. His arrest by Arkansas State Police occurred in April 2025 after a Google flag led to the investigation.

The case against Scouten began when Google identified 92 images and videos uploaded to its platform on August 13, 2024. Among these, 18 were confirmed to be explicit materials of children. This triggered a deeper probe that resulted in Scouten being indicted by a federal grand jury in May 2025. Scouten entered a guilty plea on October 6 and found himself sentenced this past Thursday.

Beyond the prison sentence of six years and two months, Scouten faces 15 years of supervised release following his time behind bars. He’s also been ordered to pay $19,000 in restitution. These measures aim to address the gravity of the offense and the lasting impact of such crimes on victims.

It’s a haunting reminder of the vigilance required to protect the community, especially in places of trust like churches. The church community in Tontitown, along with others in Northwest Arkansas, is left grappling with the betrayal of trust and the need for healing. Such incidents underscore the importance of community support and vigilance in safeguarding vulnerable children. For those looking to make a positive impact, volunteering with organizations like the Samaritan Community Center in Bentonville is one way to contribute positively to the lives of local families and children.

As Northwest Arkansas continues to grow, maintaining the safety and well-being of its youngest residents is paramount. Scouten’s sentencing serves as a harsh reminder of the work needed to create secure environments for all children in the area. Churches and community centers alike are called to strengthen their protective measures and ensure that trust is never misplaced again.
