Fayetteville’s City Hall is calling on residents to step up and lend their voices to local governance. Eleven volunteer positions are open across five of the city’s boards, commissions, and committees, offering an opportunity for citizens to shape the future of their community.
The vacancies include seats on the Animal Services Advisory Board, Environmental Action Committee, Food Commission, Historic District Commission, and Walton Arts Center Council. These groups play a critical role in advising the city on policies and initiatives that affect everything from sustainability efforts to preserving Fayetteville’s historic character.
To join one of these boards, you’ll need to be a registered voter residing within the Fayetteville city limits. If you’re not registered, you can still apply as long as you provide proof of residency. Each board has its own application process, so interested individuals must submit a separate application for each position they’re interested in.
The city’s push for volunteers comes with a deadline. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2026. Afterward, the Nominating Committee will review submissions and decide on appointments.
Getting involved in these boards and committees is more than just attending meetings. It’s about having a say in the issues that affect your neighborhood and the broader Fayetteville community. Whether it’s advocating for animal welfare, shaping the arts scene, or contributing to food policy, each position offers a platform to make a tangible impact.
In the past, local volunteers have played a significant role in driving initiatives that resonate beyond our city limits. It’s a chance not only to represent your fellow residents but to work on projects that could inspire similar efforts across Northwest Arkansas. For those who are passionate about community service and civic engagement, this is an opportunity to make a difference right here at home.
If you’re ready to take the plunge and be part of a board or committee, remember that your voice can help shape the policies and projects that make Fayetteville a vibrant place to live. Whether you’re new to civic participation or a seasoned volunteer, your contribution can have a lasting impact on our community’s future.
