Fayetteville man gets seven years in prison for internet stalking of a child

FAYETTEVILLE — A Fayetteville man has been sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to internet stalking of a child in Washington County Circuit Court.

Honestly, look at the reality of what this means. A family in our tight-knit community just had their lives upended because someone thought it was okay to use the internet to prey on a child. That court decision sends a loud, necessary message: The Northwest Arkansas justice system is taking a hard line on protecting our most vulnerable residents.

The Washington County courts handled the sentencing after the man admitted to the specific charges. Online predators often think their location on a button on a screen makes them anonymous, but the judicial system in Northwest Arkansas is showing that doesn’t hold up. When you hear about this happening locally, it hits different than reading about it in a case study or a national report.

This isn’t about big-city tough love; it’s about keeping the streets safe in Rogers, Bentonville, and Springdale. You drive through the blooming neighborhoods in Fayetteville or the busy retail corridors off I-49, and you build a certain level of trust that your kids can play outside or browse the web without worrying about who’s watching them. This sentence restores some of that balance.

Seven years is a long time to spend behind bars, and it underscores just how seriously the legal system views this type of violation. While the courts do their job, the safety of our kids requires vigilance from all of us. Technology moves fast, but we can’t let the anonymity of the web make us complacent about the people sitting next to us.

Stay engaged in your community
