Father-son team brings Bowie-inspired musical to The Medium Oct. 2-4

An original rock musical imagining David Bowie on a spiritual journey opens this weekend at The Medium in downtown Springdale.

Gary and Jeremy Loss, a father-son team from Northwest Arkansas, debut “Human Love: The Bowie Psychic Journey” at the venue on Oct. 2.

Described as “a concert inside a play,” the production blends live music, acting, singing, dance, animation, and multimedia elements. The show attempts to place an audience member inside Bowie’s mind as he navigates mortality, identity, and the search for love in the cosmos.

The Medium, located at 118 S. Main Street on the Springdale square, often hums with the noise of conversation and the smell of roasted coffee. This weekend, that atmosphere shifts, replacing the daily grind with a high-concept theatrical run.

The loss family project moves away from the standard tribute band format. Despite Bowie being the central figure, the show utilizes no songs written by David Bowie. Instead, it focuses on the character and the themes he explored through costume and dialogue.

The narrative asks big questions: What does it feel like to be a star burning out? How do you confront your own identity on a cosmic scale? It is experimental work, seeking to merge the intimacy of a spoken-word performance with the energy of a hard-rock album release.

Sources indicate the show features a rotating cast and visual storytelling that extends beyond the stage. Local actor John Honey portrays Terry Jones in the production.

This kind of work requires floor space and a specific kind of venue—the kind that exists in Springdale but is rare across the region. By choosing The Medium, the creators are opting for a raw, unpolished aesthetic that feels more like a living room conversation or an underground club than a traditional Broadway-style theater.
