Farmington Lady Cardinals volleyball claimed the title at the 47th annual Fort Smith Invitational Saturday, closing out the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record and not dropping a single set. The championship match, held at Northside Arena in Fort Smith, ended with a 25-15, 25-20 win over Fort Smith Northside, marking the first time Farmington has won this event.
Farmington improved its season record to 12-3 with the victory, signaling a continued upward trajectory following their first-ever state finals appearance last season. Senior Emmerson Rehkopf led the team’s effort with nine kills, nine digs, and a block, anchoring the Lady Cardinals through the tournament and especially in the final match.
“I’m really excited that we won this,” Rehkopf said after the match. “Last year, we made history by getting to the state championship. This year, we want to finish the job. It’d mean a lot. The six seniors we have gave it our all and are ready to do it again. I’m so happy with our performance overall today.”
The Lady Cardinals’ road to the championship was marked by steady determination and teamwork. Their toughness at the net and consistent defense proved difficult for opponents throughout the day. Farmington blanked teams in every match with a pair of 25-point sets, a clear display of dominance at a major tournament that has long been a fixture in the River Valley volleyball calendar.
Fort Smith Northside, a team with a home-court advantage and a strong reputation, put up a fight but could not find a way past Farmington’s solid offense and stingy defense. Farmington’s ability to close out both sets with control reflects their focus and composure under pressure.
This tournament win serves as more than just a trophy for Farmington volleyball; it’s a sign of the program’s growing strength and consistency. Last season’s state final run showed the potential; Saturday’s sweep at Fort Smith is proof they’re building on it.
Fans following local volleyball will remember Farmington’s breakthrough run last year that shined a spotlight on the program. The Fort Smith Invitational title adds another milestone to their story. It could also boost confidence as the Lady Cardinals prepare for the rest of the season and another shot at state glory.
Farmington’s win fits into a larger picture of competitive volleyball in Northwest Arkansas, where schools continue to raise their game. Nearby programs are watching the Lady Cardinals’ progress as a model of steady, determined growth.
For now, celebrations in Farmington are well deserved. The six seniors, including Rehkopf, have helped set a tone that will influence younger players and local volleyball culture for years to come. This team saw a path last year and took a major step further in 2026.
