EngageNWA holding event to connect Northwest Arkansas residents with local groups, volunteer opportunities

EngageNWA is hosting a free community gathering Thursday in Bentonville to help connect residents — both new and longtime — with local organizations and volunteer opportunities.

The Introducing NWA Community Gathering will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Record, located at 104 S.W. A St. in downtown Bentonville. The drop-in style event is open to all, with no admission fee, though registration is encouraged through Eventbrite.

Guests can stop by anytime during the two-hour window to meet representatives from local nonprofits, learn about volunteer roles, and hear firsthand stories from recent community members about their experiences getting involved in the area.

EngageNWA, an initiative of the Northwest Arkansas Council, organized the event to help bridge connections between individuals and civic groups across Benton County. The council hopes the gathering will make it easier for residents to find meaningful ways to engage with their communities.

“We want people to walk away with real next steps,” said a spokesperson for the Northwest Arkansas Council. “Whether you’ve lived here for years or just moved to the area, this is a chance to learn about the work happening right here and how you can be part of it.”

The event comes as more residents express interest in giving back locally, whether through mentoring, food access programs, environmental efforts, or youth services. EngageNWA said local groups are eager to welcome new volunteers but often struggle to reach people who don’t already know about their missions.

Thursday’s format is designed to be low-pressure and informative. Attendees will be able to move between tables staffed by different organizations, pick up materials, and ask questions directly. Participating groups include those focused on education, health, housing, arts, and advocacy.

Recent arrivals to the region, including families who moved for work and college students, are especially encouraged to attend. Several nonprofits plan to highlight volunteer pathways that don’t require long-term commitments, such as one-time service projects or virtual support roles.

The Record, a venue commonly used for community discussions and cultural events, was chosen to reflect the informal, welcoming tone of the evening. Located steps from the Bentonville town square, the space offers easy access and a central meeting point for people coming from multiple directions.

Thursday’s event marks the first of what EngageNWA hopes will become a regular series of gatherings. Future plans include quarterly meetups and targeted sessions focused on specific causes like literacy or sustainability.

Those interested in attending can find more information or register via Eventbrite. Walk-ins are welcome, but preregistration helps organizers estimate turnout and prepare materials accordingly.

For residents looking to deepen their connection to the area or explore how they can contribute, the event offers a straightforward entry point. No prior experience is required — just curiosity and a willingness to learn.
