Springdale-based hospice provider Circle of Life is acquiring Washington Regional Hospice, expanding its reach in Northwest Arkansas with the addition of the Willard Walker Hospice Home in Fayetteville. The purchase will mark Circle of Life’s third inpatient hospice location, joining its existing facilities in Springdale and Bentonville.
The Willard Walker Hospice Home is a significant asset, providing 24 inpatient beds within its 40,000 square-foot facility. Circle of Life will assume operations of this Fayetteville hospice as part of the agreement, which is expected to close by the end of September. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed, according to a Circle of Life spokesperson.
This transition comes following a restructuring at Washington Regional earlier this year. In May, Washington Regional eliminated 86 positions amid efforts to address financial pressures stemming from increasing labor and supply costs alongside reimbursement challenges. The healthcare system described this workforce reduction as a strategic organizational restructuring impacting hospital operations.
Circle of Life Hospice has served the Northwest Arkansas community for more than a decade, including the opening of its Bentonville inpatient facility in Legacy Village in 2013. That 24-bed center marked a critical expansion of hospice care options in Benton County. Adding the Fayetteville site further extends the organization’s capacity to support terminally ill patients and their families across the region.
Hospice care providers in Northwest Arkansas have faced economic headwinds in recent years, mirroring wider trends seen across healthcare sectors in the state and nationally. Rising operational costs and fluctuating reimbursement rates from insurers and Medicare have forced many providers to restructure or consolidate.
Washington Regional Hospice, previously operating as part of the larger Washington Regional Medical System, had served the Fayetteville area for years with comprehensive end-of-life services focused on patient comfort and family support. By joining Circle of Life’s network, the Fayetteville hospice home will continue patient care without interruption under new management.
The consolidation reflects shifting dynamics in Northwest Arkansas’s healthcare landscape as providers adapt to financial realities while seeking to maintain community access to specialized services like hospice care.
