Cave Springs warns residents of water service interruption as Bentonville moves utility line, metering station

Residents in northern Cave Springs should prepare for a temporary water service interruption Wednesday morning as crews relocate a key utility line and metering station.

The work, tied to the ongoing Arkansas 112 expansion project, is being led by the Bentonville Water Department. Starting around 9 a.m., water service for the northern part of Cave Springs will be cut for up to four hours while crews disconnect the existing Elk Road water line and metering station and bring a new system online.

The move is necessary to accommodate roadway widening along Arkansas 112, a section that runs just north of the Cave Springs city limits and serves as a key artery for commuters heading toward Bentonville and points south. The new metering station has been built slightly to the east of the current location, near the intersection of Arkansas 112 and Elk Road.

According to a news release from the city of Cave Springs, the interruption will affect customers north of the metering station. During the shutdown, lines will be cut and capped at the old station before crews activate the new one. City officials said water service will be restored as quickly as possible once the transition is complete.

While the work is taking place in Cave Springs, it’s being managed by Bentonville’s public works team due to the line’s connection to the city’s broader utility network. Bentonville has been coordinating closely with Cave Springs officials throughout the project, which has required shifting several utilities as the highway expansion progresses.

The Arkansas 112 project, which began in 2024, is aimed at easing congestion and improving traffic flow between Cave Springs and Bentonville. The stretch from U.S. 62 to just past Elk Road is being widened from two to four lanes, with new turn lanes, sidewalks, and bike paths included in the design. The project is expected to wrap up by late 2026.

Wednesday’s utility move is one of several planned relocations. In recent months, gas and electric utilities have also been shifted to accommodate the new road alignment. Each shift requires temporary service interruptions for nearby residents, though city staff have worked to keep disruptions brief and communicate changes in advance.

Residents in the affected area are advised to prepare by storing a small supply of water ahead of Wednesday’s work. Those who rely on continuous water access for medical equipment or other essential needs are encouraged to contact Cave Springs City Hall at 479-787-4411 to discuss accommodations.

The new metering station is part of a broader infrastructure upgrade designed to support long-term growth in both Cave Springs and southern Benton County. As development continues to push outward from Bentonville’s urban core, coordination between neighboring municipalities has become increasingly important to ensure utilities can keep pace with demand.

Wednesday’s work is expected to be the last major utility relocation in the area for the foreseeable future. Once complete, the Arkansas 112 corridor will have a more modern and resilient infrastructure backbone, better equipped to serve the region’s expanding residential and commercial base.
