Buildings expected to be ready by July for veterans-focused housing development in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE — The Patriot Park veteran-focused housing development is expected to begin leasing units within the next few weeks, with buildings ready by mid-July, according to Washington County officials.

Tad Sours, communications director for Washington County, said the project remains on schedule. Construction releases for the individual buildings are anticipated to begin in mid-July, with leasing to follow shortly after.

“Interest in the development continues to grow,” Sours said in a Friday news release. “As of today, 120 individuals are currently on the Patriot Park waiting list, including 100 applicants who have identified themselves as veterans.”

The development, located in Fayetteville, is designed to provide subsidized housing with priority given to veterans. The project represents a collaboration between Washington County, area veterans service organizations and nonprofit partners working to address the need for affordable housing for veterans in Northwest Arkansas.

Representatives of area veterans service organizations and nonprofits toured the site in April, getting a firsthand look at the progress on the apartment complex. The tour allowed partners to see the construction firsthand and discuss the application process for prospective residents.

The waiting list numbers reflect sustained demand for veteran-focused housing in the region. With 100 of the 120 applicants identifying as veterans, the development is on track to serve its intended population. The remaining 20 applicants include family members of veterans and other qualifying individuals.

Washington County has led the initiative, working with various partners to fund and develop the project. The subsidized housing model aims to make residential units affordable for veterans earning at or below area median income levels.

Veterans service organizations in Northwest Arkansas have long advocated for more dedicated housing options for veterans in the region. The development addresses a gap in affordable housing specifically designed for those who have served in the military.

The project’s timeline has remained consistent since ground was broken. Officials said the mid-July completion target allows the first residents to move in during the summer months.

Prospective tenants interested in the development can contact Washington County’s veterans services office for information about the application process and eligibility requirements. Details about income limits, priority categories and waitlist procedures are available through the county’s veterans services division.

Patriot Park adds to the inventory of affordable housing options in Fayetteville. The development specifically targets a population that advocates say has been underserved in the regional housing market.

Washington County officials have said the project reflects the community’s commitment to supporting veterans who have returned to civilian life in Northwest Arkansas. The development provides not just housing but also connections to support services through the veterans service organizations involved in the project.

Leasing information will be released through Washington County’s communications office as units become available. The first buildings in the complex are expected to receive certificates of occupancy in mid-July, clearing the way for new residents to move in.
