Bentonville to hold shred-it and electronic recycling event for residents and business owners in October

Bentonville is giving residents and business owners a chance to clear out sensitive documents and old electronics safely this October. The city, partnering with ESCO Recycling, will hold a Shred-it and electronic recycling event on Oct. 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event takes place in the parking lot behind Fire Station 1 at 800 Southwest A Street. Attendees are asked to enter from Southwest A Street for smooth traffic flow. This setup should be familiar to folks who frequent the Square or attend events at the nearby Sarah H. Powell Plaza, just a few blocks north.

Both residents and businesses will need to preregister on the city’s website before participating. For residents, eligibility depends on living within Bentonville’s corporate limits. This means having a Bentonville mailing address alone won’t cut it—attendees will be required to present an ID verifying their address. This city line bit can sometimes catch folks off guard, especially with how ZIP codes trickle across county lines.

Business owners who want to shred documents or recycle electronics must have a current registration with Bentonville’s business registry and provide proof of registration at the event. For those who haven’t registered their businesses yet, the city encourages completing that process online ahead of time to avoid complications on the day of the event.

The Shred-it service is a solid option for secure destruction of sensitive paperwork like bank statements, medical files, or expired IDs. ESCO Recycling will accept a variety of electronic devices for recycling, which helps keep hazardous materials out of landfills—important for environmentally conscious city residents who enjoy spending time along the Razorback Regional Greenway or at Crystal Bridges.

Events like this one carry extra significance locally given Bentonville’s fast growth. With new businesses popping up on Walton Boulevard and additional residential developments near downtown, the need for responsible disposal solutions rises. Also, keeping electronics and documents out of the regular trash helps reduce the clutter tucked away in attics and garages.

Bentonville started partnering with recycling and shredding professionals for these events a few years ago to better manage community waste and protect information security. The Fire Station 1 site was selected for its central location and ample parking, making it easier for people to swing by on their way to or from work downtown or the Walmart Home Office campus.

Plan ahead to make your stop quick and efficient: preregister online, bring proof of residency or business registration, and stick to the set hours. After Oct. 13, residents will have to wait until next year’s scheduled event to take advantage of these free services.

This offering adds to the city’s broader sustainability efforts, which include regular curbside recycling and community education programs. It’s also a quiet reminder that Bentonville’s civic leaders are listening to practical needs—something not always obvious amidst towering cranes and new development announcements around the city core.
