Bentonville street closure related to utility work to last through August

Southwest A Street between Southwest 12th and Southwest 14th streets will stay closed through early August due to ongoing utility work, the city of Bentonville confirmed this week.

The closure began at 8 a.m. on Friday, May 15, and is scheduled to last until 6 p.m. on August 7. The work is part of a broader utility upgrade aimed at improving infrastructure in the area, according to a city news release. Residents and commuters should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes.

The section of road is a key connector near downtown Bentonville, close to the trail network that links to the Razorback Greenway and the recently expanded Wilson Park trail system. Drivers heading to or from neighborhoods on the south side of town may need to adjust their regular routes during the nearly three-month closure.

City officials noted that weather or unexpected conditions could shift the timeline. While no major delays have been reported so far, crews are working to minimize disruption as much as possible. Updates will be shared through the city’s website and social media channels as the project progresses.

This stretch of Southwest A Street sees regular foot and bike traffic, especially during morning and evening commutes. The closure may affect access to nearby businesses and residential areas. Local cyclists who use the trail connection from Wilson Park to downtown may need to plan detours through adjacent streets or consider alternative entry points to the greenway.

Bentonville’s Public Works Department is overseeing the project, which includes upgrades to water and sewer lines. These improvements are part of the city’s long-term infrastructure plan, aimed at supporting growth in the southwest corridor. Similar projects have taken place in other parts of town over the past two years, including work near East Central Avenue and improvements along Southeast Moberly Lane.

For real-time updates on road closures and construction impacts, residents can visit the city’s official website or follow @BentonvilleAR on social media. Questions about the project can be directed to the Public Works Department at (479) 271-5000.
