Bentonville broke through a sluggish first quarter to score a decisive 38-14 victory over Rogers Heritage Friday night at Legacy Stadium in Rogers. The Tigers, trailing 7-0 early on, tightened their defense and unleashed a balanced offensive attack that overwhelmed the Patriots in the second half.
After falling behind to a Heritage touchdown on their opening possession, Bentonville settled into a rhythm behind junior quarterback Cade Johnson. Johnson completed 16 of 24 passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns, spreading the ball to multiple receivers across all four quarters.
Junior running back Malik Jefferson powered the ground game, rushing for 110 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries. Jefferson’s second-half runs helped flip field position and wore down the Heritage defense, setting up several scoring drives.
Defense spearheaded Bentonville’s charge after a slow start. The Tigers forced three turnovers, including two interceptions and a fumble recovery, all coming after halftime. Defensive back Marcus Lee, who returned an interception for a touchdown in the third quarter, played a pivotal role in swinging momentum fully toward Bentonville.
Heritage’s lone second-half points came on a late fourth-quarter touchdown pass, but Bentonville answered with a field goal to keep the lead comfortably doubled digits. Bentonville’s offensive line opened consistent running lanes and protected Johnson well, giving the Tigers options on every play.
Head Coach Mike Barber praised his team’s resilience. “We knew the start wasn’t our best, but the guys stuck to the game plan and adjusted quickly,” Barber said. “Our defense really stepped up when it counted, and Cade found his rhythm in the passing game. It was a full team effort.”
The victory boosts Bentonville’s record to 4-2 in conference play as they look toward upcoming matchups on home turf. Fans will get a chance to see the Tigers back at home next Friday against Springdale, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. at Walton Stadium.
Rogers Heritage falls to 2-4 overall but showed promising effort despite the loss. Their defense made Bentonville work hard in the first quarter, and quarterback Tyler Mason completed 12 of 20 passes for 165 yards and a touchdown. Running back Isaiah Turner added 75 yards on the ground but found less daylight as the game progressed.
For Bentonville, this game reinforced the depth and versatility that have become hallmarks of their program. The Tigers spread out the defense with a mix of short and deep throws, while their running backs delivered tough, effective yards between the tackles.
With Bentonville’s offense clicking and their defense forcing critical turnovers, the team seems to be gaining momentum at the right time. The Tigers have now won three straight games, raising hopes for a strong finish to the season as playoff battles begin to take shape across Benton County.
