The Bentonville Planning Commission has approved a plan to include the proposed Bentonville Ballroom as part of the South of Momentary development. With a unanimous 7-0 vote on Tuesday, the commission took the first step toward bringing a new mid-size music venue to downtown Bentonville. The Bentonville Ballroom, which is backed by Live Nation in collaboration with the Momentary, is designed to hold up to 2,500 guests and is expected to open its doors in 2028.
This development is set to be part of a larger 18-acre planned unit development district at 507 S.E. E Street, just down the road from the Momentary. The project will now go before the Bentonville City Council on March 31 for further approval of the amendment. If the City Council gives its nod, the Bentonville Ballroom will still need to pass additional hurdles in the large-scale development process before construction can begin.
Tyler Overstreet, the city’s planning and community development director, clarified that even with the Planning Commission’s approval, there are still several steps in the process before the venue becomes a reality. Overstreet emphasized the importance of the City Council’s upcoming decision, as well as the need for further Planning Commission approvals down the line.
The Bentonville Ballroom aims to fill a niche in the local entertainment scene by providing a venue that is mid-sized—larger than intimate spaces but smaller than arenas. This makes it an ideal spot for a diverse range of performances and events that cater to both local residents and visitors. The venue’s location near the Momentary also positions it well for collaborations and complementary programming.
This isn’t the first time Bentonville has seen significant cultural development initiatives. The city has been actively working to enhance its cultural and entertainment offerings, with institutions like Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and the Momentary serving as major cultural magnets. The addition of the Bentonville Ballroom is expected to further enrich the city’s vibrant arts scene.
Downtown Bentonville has become a hub of activity, with the Square often serving as a bustling center for community events. If the Bentonville Ballroom project receives final approvals, it could become a key player in the city’s cultural landscape, potentially drawing more visitors and fostering economic growth in the area.
For those interested in the progress of this exciting development, keep an eye on the City Council’s decision at the end of the month. The potential approval of the Bentonville Ballroom is a significant step forward for Bentonville’s growing reputation as a cultural and entertainment destination.
