Bella Vista city officials have announced the return of the city’s fall tree giveaway, setting the date for Oct. 16 at Sugar Creek Center. The program requires advanced registration, with sign-ups opening to residents at 9 a.m. Friday on the city’s official website.
Residents who successfully reserve a tree will receive an email with pickup instructions prior to the event. Those who do not secure a reservation through the sign-up portal will not be able to check out a tree at the distribution site.
The openhouse event at Sugar Creek Center, located just north of Allen’s restaurant, offers Bella Vista residents an opportunity to improve their property landscaping for free. The city provides various species of trees, which are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
A proof of residency is mandatory for anyone collecting a tree on Oct. 16. The city has consistently enforced this requirement in similar distributions over the past few years to ensure materials go to actual residents rather than contractors or external parties.
Operational Details
Depending on the projected turnout, the pickup process may involve a wait. Last year’s distribution at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church parking lot demonstrated the volume of interest in the program, where traffic backed up as volunteers worked to load trees into trunks.
City crews and community volunteers typically staff the event, managing logistics from traffic flow to loading vehicles. Those attending on Oct. 16 should be prepared to display valid identification or utility bills that confirm a Bella Vista address.
The Tree Value Award program, often associated with such giveaways, allows homeowners to compete for cash prizes based on their landscaping projects. However, the immediate hurdle for most this year is simply securing a tree through the online portal.
Bella Vista maintains a reputation for extensive urban forestry. The city’s focus on sidewalks and street trees provides shade and reduces the urban heat island effect common in the region during the fall transition.
Residents are encouraged to secure their spot early. The link bellavistaar.gov/treegiveaway accepts registrations for the 100 or so trees available per distribution event.
