Backers bet big for youth

The Bubbles and VIPink happy-hour on March 13 at Ledger in Bentonville wrapped up the Susan G. Komen 2026 VIPink Ambassador fundraising campaign with a toast to community spirit and philanthropy. This annual campaign rallied local leaders against breast cancer, blending friendly competition with a commitment to research and outreach.

For a month, from February 9 to March 10, a group of dedicated ambassadors competed to raise funds for Komen’s mission. This year’s participants included Dr. Katherine Rankin from The Breast Center, Bree Tucker of Tyson Foods, Nicky Dean with Collier & Associates, Juli McWhorter from Northwest Health, and Caleb Cash-Tobey representing the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith. Dr. Rankin led the charge, securing top honors in the fundraising efforts, with Tucker close on her heels in second place.

The Komen organization shared some hopeful statistics, noting that breast cancer mortality rates in the U.S. have decreased by 44% since 1989, thanks to early detection and effective treatments. Such progress highlights the critical role of fundraising and community support in advancing medical research.

Local events like these not only bring attention to significant health issues but also bolster community ties. Ledger’s event was more than just a celebration—it was a testament to Northwest Arkansas’s commitment to battling breast cancer at a community level. The evening saw professionals and community members from various sectors uniting for a cause that touches many lives.

For those inspired by the VIPink Ambassadors’ efforts and looking to make a difference, opportunities abound to support similar causes in the area. From the upcoming grant opportunities through the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame Foundation to the philanthropic work of the Arkansas Community Foundation, the spirit of giving remains strong in Northwest Arkansas.

In a region where community drives action, the success of the VIPink campaign is a reminder of what can be achieved when local leaders, businesses, and residents come together for a common cause. Whether through financial contributions or volunteering time, there’s always a way to support and uplift our neighbors.
