Adjam’s fourth-down score helps spark Wolverines’ win

Ryan Adjam’s touchdown catch on fourth down just before halftime helped push Bentonville West past Cabot 45-7 Friday night at Wolverine Stadium in Centerton.

On fourth-and-3 from Cabot’s 36-yard line with 41 seconds left in the second quarter, Adjam broke free after catching a pass from Sutton Mackey over the middle. Adjam saw the Cabot safety shift down before the play, which gave him the confidence the play would succeed.

“It was a really good designed play,” Adjam said. “I saw the safety come down, so I knew it was going to be a touchdown. It was an easy pitch and catch.”

That touchdown widened Bentonville West’s lead to 17-7 going into halftime. It sparked a dominant second half for the Wolverines, who scored three straight touchdowns to pull away.

Adjam had already made a major impact in the game’s first quarter, pulling in a 51-yard touchdown pass with 4:21 left in the period to tie the score at 7-7. His two touchdowns accounted for a big portion of the team’s strong offensive showing.

Coach Bryan Pratt said the team didn’t start with the same intensity they showed the previous week in their opener against Greenwood. Early turnovers and mistakes gave Cabot some life, including a notable 31-yard run by Bryce Moore on a fake punt.

But Bentonville West regrouped and took full control. The Wolverines improved to 2-0 with the win, while Cabot dropped to 0-2.

Friday’s victory was an important confidence boost for Bentonville West as they settle into their season. With home games at Wolverine Stadium on Walton Boulevard, the Wolverines are a fixture in Centerton’s Friday night lights.

Next up for Bentonville West will be a fresh challenge as they look to keep their streak alive. Meanwhile, Cabot will regroup after the tough loss, aiming to bounce back in their upcoming contests.
