72nd annual Decatur BBQ Fest offers flavor, fun and free family entertainment this Saturday

The 72nd annual Decatur BBQ Fest returns to Veterans Park, 1105 W. Main St. in Decatur, this Saturday with gates opening at 8 a.m. The Decatur Chamber of Commerce promises a day loaded with free family entertainment, savory barbecue, and a fireworks finale at 8:30 p.m.

This year’s festival keeps the community spirit alive with a mix of live music, a competitive barbecue cook-off, a car show, and pageantry, all designed to welcome residents and visitors from across Northwest Arkansas. Families will find plenty to do between the free inflatables provided by Handy Mart and plenty of lawn chairs spread out on the grass. The event center features free parking courtesy of the Decatur Alumni, making it easy to come and go.

Veterans Park will fill up with the aroma of slow-cooked barbecue, as contestants compete for top honors in the cook-off. Whether you’re rooting for a neighbor’s pitmaster skills or simply there to sample the fruity and smoky sauces, the contest adds an extra sizzle to the day. The car show offers a chance to admire classic and custom vehicles lined up along the festival grounds, showcasing local pride and craftsmanship.

Live music is scheduled to run throughout the day, providing a soundtrack of blues, country, and rock to the festivities. Decatur’s community stage has traditionally been a platform for local bands and solo acts, giving the event a homegrown feel that has kept crowds coming back for more than seven decades.

The festival’s pageantry includes ceremonial moments that celebrate Decatur’s history and culture. These presentations, often involving city officials and community groups, offer a chance to honor decades of the city’s spirit and growth. The city’s longtime embrace of barbecue culture has helped cement the festival as a cornerstone event in Benton County.

Free family-friendly activities make this more than a food event. Kids can bounce and slide on Handy Mart-sponsored inflatables all day, leaving plenty of space for parents to relax and enjoy the afternoon. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to stake out a comfortable spot on the grass, perfect for lingering between eats.

The night caps off with a fireworks display beginning at 8:30 p.m., lighting up the sky over Veterans Park and providing a patriotic end to a day of down-home fun. It’s a memorable way for families to enjoy each other’s company and celebrate another year of this local tradition.

Decatur BBQ Fest has been a fixture in Northwest Arkansas for more than 70 years, drawing visitors from Bentonville, Rogers, Fayetteville, and beyond. Its approachable vibe and community focus set it apart from the bigger festivals in the region. This year’s event continues that legacy, keeping things affordable and accessible for all.

Parking is free and plentiful thanks to the Decatur Alumni Association’s sponsorship, easing a common festival headache. The Decatur Chamber of Commerce remains at the helm of planning, ensuring the fest stays true to its roots as an authentic small-town celebration that highlights local flavor and talent.

If you need a break from the Walmart crowds and Walmart AMP concerts, the Decatur BBQ Fest offers a slice of genuine NWA community spirit, with plenty of barbecue to go around. Whether you’re a local who’s been coming since childhood or a visitor looking for a different taste of Benton County, Saturday promises a day packed with good food, music, and fireworks in the small city just west of Rogers.
